VidCon Experience 2016!

This year was my first ever VidCon, and it was the best experience of my life!

For those of you who don't know, VidCon is a convention for the online community in which people attend to meet their favourite Youtubers or to learn more about the online community. There are meet & greets that you can sign up for or panels to attend depending on which ticket you get.

This year's meet & greets were picked from a signing lottery. So months beforehand you had to enter a choice of 16 Youtubers and the lottery will randomly select between 2-4 Youtubers. Here were my meet & greets:

Aside from meeting Youtubers in the Meet & Tweet Hall, I met so much more Youtubers just by walking in the Expo Hall or outside the convention centre.

There was a bit of a downside with this year's VidCon, as there were a lot of security but it was completely understandable considering that they were only trying to keep everyone safe. However, they would block some fans from meeting Youtubers in public if things got too chaotic. So my tip for that would be, if you do happen to see a Youtuber- don't be afraid to run up and ask for a picture! (You may never get the chance!)

If you are considering going to VidCon next year, I would 100% recommend it! It is an amazing experience to learn more about the online community and some BTS of creators.

It was such an incredible opportunity attending this year's VidCon, and I would go again next year!

TIPS FOR VIDCON
  • Download the VidCon app and make sure to add the things you want to do to your schedule, days prior the event.
  • I recommend lining up at least 1h 30m- 3h (depending on how popular the creator is) before a panel/ show to get good seats.
  • Keep on checking creator's social medias to see where they are, or if they have impromptu meetups!
  • Check the app to see how many people are attending the same show/ panel as you so you can plan how early you need to get there.
  • If you are watching a performance/ panel in the KIA Mainstage, then save your spot the moment it opens.
  • If you are watching a performance in the KIA Arena, then you will need to stand 3 hours beforehand.
  • Go to the VidCon registration day before the first day of VidCon to avoid hassles!
  • Bring loads of snacks as you will not have much time for a full meal.
  • On the first day of VidCon, you will need to line up to get in so make sure you line up at least an hour before it opens.
  • The Awesomeness TV stage always has surprise guests so make sure you follow their Instagram to know who's attending.
  • After a performance on the Awesomeness TV stage, the designated performer will have a brief M&G so make sure you start lining up during the middle of their set!
  • If you are attending with more than one person, have someone wait at an event while you are at another to save time.
